MY TAKE ON NYKAA SKINGENIUS FOUNDATION STICK
Packaging: The foundation stick comes in a retractable bullet form which is easy to use and is travel-friendly. The tube isn’t of great quality and is made up of plastic. Also, twisting the bullet isn’t smooth and is a bit clumsy.
Texture: The foundation has a cream-to-velvety finish which looks dewy.
Shade: There are a total of 7 shades in the range, below is a summary on each-
Creamy Bisque 01 : This shade is the lightest of all and has a pink undertone. Will suit people with very fair skin/pale skin tone.
Natural Buff 02 : This shade too is light and has yellow undertones. Will suit Indian fair skin tones perfectly.
Rose Beige 03 : This shade will suit you if you are from the fair to medium skin tone of a pink undertone. I personally don’t think this will suit any Indian skin tone, but fair skin tones can use this for contouring.
Warm Honey 04 : This will suit you if you are from the fair to medium skin tone of a yellow undertone. This shade is something I thought would suit me, but still looks dark on my NC42 skin tone!
Toasty Almond 05 : This shade will suit you if you are from the medium to dark skin tone of a pink undertone. This shade is a darker version of ‘Rose Beige’.
Golden Hazelnut 06: This shade will suit people with medium to dark skin tone of a yellow undertone.
Toffee Chisel 07: This shade is great for almost all Indian dark skin tones. I tried using this as a contour shade and it works well!
How I use and staying power: I am not a big fan of stick foundations since I love my liquid foundations a lot. Stick foundations usually have a creamy texture which I do not like and application is always a problem especially if you only like to use a damp beauty sponge. Similarly, this stick foundation is perfectly applied only with your fingers and brush too can make it look streaky. To use, swipe the foundation stick on your skin and blend it using finger tips.
The stick foundation is easy to blend using fingertips and you certainly cannot use a beauty blender for this due to the creamy texture. Also, brushes tend to leave behind streaks so fingertips work the best. The foundation has medium coverage which is good. If you have oily to combination skin, do not consider layering or or building up the foundation since the creamy texture won’t work in your favor. The foundation settles into a velvety finish with dewy subtle glow which does not look that bad. I personally do not like the creamy texture on my combination skin, but this might work for normal to dry skin. This needs setting with a powder to keep the texture matte and comfortable yet dewy. If you have very dark spots, you might need a concealer underneath. The foundation settles into fine lines around the eyes which looks gross and this is the least I would expect from my go-to foundation. The foundation seems ok-ok but the shade is the biggest problem! NC42 is the most used shade from mac (meaning, majority of Indian skin tones are medium-yellow) and there is no shade in this range that will go well with people having NC42 shade! I am NC 42 and ‘Warm Honey 04’ looks darker on my skin tone and the shades lighter than this give a white caste and does not match my skin tone. So, I found a great trick of mixing ‘Natural Buff 02’ and ‘Warm Honey 04’ and it does a great job of matching my skin tone. Setting the foundation with a setting spray and powder makes it last long, but area around the nose and forehead gets shiny after 3-4 hours. This might not be a problem with normal-dry skin. Overall, the foundation is decent but shade range is an issue for medium Indian skin tones.
- Travel friendly
- Great for normal-dry skin
- Darker shades can be used as a contouring product
- Does not cling to dry patches
- Medium coverage
- NC42 skin tone might need to buy 2 shades to mix and match the exact preferred shade :/
- Can only be applied with fingertips for flawless application
- Settles into fine lines
- Oily-combination skin might not like this a lot
- Cheap packaging
