What the brand says:
What is this? This formula is a water-free suspension of very fine L-Ascorbic Acid powder and, as such, provides the most direct exposure of extremely high concentrations of Vitamin C topically. This water-free, silicone-free formula provides 23% pure L-Ascorbic Acid which remains completely stable due to the absence of water.
What it does? Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant and its pure form of L-Ascorbic Acid has been shown to reverse multiple signs of skin ageing while brightening the skin when applied topically.
MY TAKE ON THE ORDINARY VITAMIN C SUSPENSION 23%+ HA SPHERES 2%
Packaging: The product comes in a classic looking grey colored tube with a flip-open cap. I feel the packaging could have been better (maybe in a bottle and dropper form) because the product is very liquidy/thin and you tend to always pour out more product than required.
Texture: The product is grainy and after you massage it for sometime, the particles dissolve and settle to an oily film on skin. You need to massage for a longer period in order to reduce the gritty-oily feeling.
How I use and after-effects: The brand suggests using this during the day and night both, but since I do not like the gritty-oily feeling, I prefer using this in the PM. Just take a drop (do not take more than a drop or the product will just sit on your face) and massage it on your face until you are comfortable with the finish. It won’t completely get absorbed or leave a matte-dry feeling so do not waste your time massaging for more than 2 minutes. After several tries, I have come up to a conclusion that the product gets well-absorbed without the oily film when used on wet skin; this makes sense because the suspension is water-free and when used on wet skin, the powder instantly dissolves and get absorbed quickly without the obvious oily feeling.
I have been using this for more than a month now, and I feel its the right time to put forward my thoughts on the product. Before I get on with the review (and if you are new to this blog), I would like to mention that I have combination and acne-prone skin. I have been using a lot of ‘The Ordinary’ products lately and my skin is absolutely loving it! This was just another awesome product included in my night-time regime. I use this and lactic acid every alternate night. The product does sting a bit the initial few times you use it (preferably in areas where you have acne) but as your skin gets used to it, you won’t really feel anything. Also, do not expect this product to do wonders in the first few uses, you need to give it some time to show visible effects. I do not get acne anymore, just one or two tiny ones before my periods (thank you hormones!) ever since I have included this (and some other ‘The Ordinary’ products) in my regime. I do not have wrinkles or ageing skin so I don’t really know if it helps with that, but I do see my skin looking better and brightened! I also got few compliments regarding how better my skin looks so this product definitely has changed something. Skin tone looks even and skin feels moisturized even in dry winter weathers. Also, dark spots seem to be reducing overtime. I absolutely love this product and give this a thumbs up!
